Hello WA State NAPNAP members,
Our 2021 WA State legislative session is up and virtually running. Your legislative team is advocating for our WA State children and our profession but we need your help!
Our Chapter has committed to advocating for early childhood development in alignment with our National priorities. Currently, Washington State apple health only covers postpartum mothers for 60 days. SB 5068 seeks to extend medicaid coverage for postpartum mothers from 60 days to 12 months. Extending this coverage would give new mothers who have an income equal to or below 193 percent of the federal poverty level the chance to recover from their complications, receive timely identification with support for behavioral health problems, and form strong bonds with their babies. This bill was passed by both the house and senate last session but was unfortunately vetoed by the Governor due to the financial difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Attached you will find an individualized WA State NAPNAP member letter in support of SB 5068. Please send this letter to your local legislators! If you have a few extra minutes add a personalized story about your healthcare experience with early childhood development. This bill is moving quickly through the senate and needs bipartisan support to benefit our communities! Don't forget to sign your name with contact information for your legislator.
