Position Description

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington has a unique opportunity for one (1) part-time Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to join Family Medicine Services at the University of Washington Northwest Hospital as a Teaching Associate. This is a 40% FTE clinical position with an expected start date of March 1, 2025, or soon thereafter.

Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The full-time base salary range for this position will be: $10,000 - $13,333 per month ($120,000 - $160,000 annually) to be pro-rated based on FTE and commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Position Description

This APP will be a member of the interdisciplinary Family Medicine Services team that includes physicians, fellows, residents, and medical and MEDEX students who provide mostly inpatient and some outpatient services to patients. The inpatient service includes general medicine and acute care patients.

Scope of Work:

  1. Works under the general direction of a collaborating MD/DO,
  2. Communicates changes in patient’s health status to the patient’s primary care provider,
  3. Provides timely inpatient acute care and medical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and management of general medicine inpatients using appropriate clinical guidelines,
  4. Uses case management skills to collaborate with other hospital specialists and team members, PCP's and other providers to ensure coordination and continuity of care and timely discharges for patients across setting and over time,
  5. Documents patient care data in accordance with the UWP policies,
  6. Participates in the appropriate interdisciplinary team meetings and serves as a resource for attending MD/DOs, residents, staff and patients,
  7. Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and community resources as appropriate,
  8. Participates as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices,
  9. Evaluates patient care and quality outcomes for the family medicine team through participation in the development of quality indicators,
  10. Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice,
  11. Provides other duties as requested which are consistent with the advanced practice role in the inpatient setting,
  12. Evaluates the physical and psychological state of the acute care patients. Provides support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching, counseling and rehabilitation as well as referring patients to community agencies to promote optimal adjustment and functioning,
  13. Teaches and mentors new PAC or ARNP staff and PA and/or NP students
  14. Participates in patient rounds, divisional and departmental meetings, educational conferences, and committees

Other positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience working with high-risk patients and clinical teaching in an inpatient setting, proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment, and effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills and clinical expertise in patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Washington State Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or PA Program
  • Nationally Certified ARNP or PA-C with DEA (or foreign equivalent)
